Description
Historical home escapes demolition through Charlesetta Taylor’s efforts to keep her families multi-generational home intact, even under pressure from the St. Louis Development Corporation and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Almost 100,000 people signed a petition to save the house and fight eminent domain.
The 2½-story, 370-ton, 300 square foot house was built in 1891 for $2,500, then purchased in 1945 by the Brown family and has remained in the Brown and Taylor family line since that time. The less than one mile move from 2530 North Market to 2200 St. Louis Avenue (now 2530 St. Louis Avenue) was completed on 2/26/2017 for a cost of $500,000 by Expert House Movers of Pacific, Missouri.
If these walls could talk, I’m sure there would be plenty of happy memories to share. The family was able to celebrate Thanksgiving in the new location in 2017, it was Charlesetta’s 77th Thanksgiving in the home continuing family traditions, history and heritage. Listening to Charlesetta’s comments on video’s available, she put it in God’s hands and was surprised and full of thanks for the move of the home.
